Count Your Blessings

We all have our down days...our "oh woe is me" days. It is when life seems the darkest that we really need to look up and count our blessings, no matter how small they seem.

To quote one of my mom's favorite songs by Mary Clooney:

When I'm worried and I can't sleep
I count my blessings instead of sheep
And I fall asleep counting my blessings
When my bankroll is getting small
I think of when I had none at all
And I fall asleep counting my blessings

Even when I was a small child and would bemoan not having what other kids had, or how hard school was that day, or how my favorite tv program wasn't on for some reason, my mom would look me square in the eye and tell me to count my blessings.

Blessing 1: I had eyesight to be able to watch tv....my uncle didn't
Blessing 2: I had ears that could hear....my aunt didn't
Blessing 3: I had parents who love me and were always there for me...other kids had "things" in place of absent parents
Blessing 4: I had a functioning brain that was able to learn.....some people didn't - imagine how frustrating that must be.
And so on.........well it really hit home for me to the point I've carried the practice onward into adulthood and let me tell you..it makes the darkest day a little brighter :-)

The exercise can be used anytime, anywhere, about anything.
If feeling overwhelmed by a mortgage - be thankful you are blessed with shelter :-)
If annoyed with your children's behaviour - be thankful you have children :-)
If feeling overwhelmed at work - be thankful you are employed :-)
If tired of feeling ill - be thankful you are alive to be able to feel :-)

COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS ! You'll be surprised how many you really have :-D

  1. A great reminder for us all! In this country, we all have so much to be thankful for and really, very little to actually complain about!

    Love ya sis!
